The grant’s purpose is to support research on the road safety of children and youth, including child passengers in vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists, and other modes of transportation. AAAM is a multidisciplinary community; we are looking for and strongly encourage collaborations and interdisciplinary submissions.
The published work and (where possible) the dataset will be made available with the support of AAAM. The target is to present the project at the 2026 AAAM Annual Conference in Costa Rica (e.g., short communication, late breaking oral only, or poster presentation). Additional support for travel costs will be provided.
Research activities are to be conducted from January to October 2026.
A $5,000 grant will be awarded to the chosen proposal to support research costs.
Topics in this domain are many and varied; we do not wish to impose limitations, but here are some examples that may be interesting and possible to complete with the limited time and budget available:
A scoping review of the legislation, regulatory, and enforcement frameworks in place to support child road safety – supported by interviews or focus groups.
A knowledge, attitudes, and practices survey on child road safety in a Low-Middle Income Country (LMIC) or specific cultural/geographic area.
An analysis of law enforcement and/or health system data relative to child road safety.
A real-world evaluation of the effectiveness of child road safety public awareness campaigns in an LMIC or specific cultural/geographic area, measuring changes in knowledge, attitudes, and self-reported behaviors.
